The loli countess turned out to be quite a character. It might not be such a bad idea to work for her, for a while. Makoto could use the time to learn a whole lot about the world. It would be much easier working for a local ruler than just being a random beginner adventurer. He could access libraries and question city officials and such. I reckon he would have access to interesting jobs as well. He would just need to make sure he's not made a knight or something, which could bind him to her service for the rest of his days. Just be a hired sword for a while. She's "just" a countess, so the baggage would be considerable less than working for a king. It could be difficult to leave a king's service whenever you want to move on or refuse missions you find distasteful, but with a countess, I doubt it would be a problem. Her influence would also be limited outside of her own fief, so he wouldn't immediately need to skip the whole country if things didn't work out.
