This is a terrible (but - let's be realistic - probably not 100% ineffective) dating strategy.

From what I could gather, there isn't actually a dating strategy that doesn't work apart from not trying at all.
Just as there are many types of people, there are also many different types of approaches that one likes
I think the best strategy is to consider who you are yourself and what you look for and use that. If it doesn't work, then you just weren't compatible and you properly filtered each other.
So, asking "do you want to watch a 10 hour documentary on the lore of the bionicle franchise with me" is a pretty good flirt that filters for proper human beings.

Tbh, if it bothers you this much... Go to a style counselor and get advice on how to make yourself look presentable.
Do think about what type of person you want to be perceived positively by before going, as tastes diverge.
