My only complaint is that a supporting character just gave the MC important information that was comprehensive, easily understood, and super necessary for his life... and he complained that she "spoke her mind," instead of letting him "read the air" (also known as "Guessing").

Like, bro; I know you keep bragging about being Japanese, and acting Japanese, and still Japanese-ing after 20 years away from Japan, but.... seriously; stop being dumb, MC.

Like... I basically just read:

"You're about to fall into quicksand; stop walking, right now."

"Jeez, why didn't you hint at the trees and ask me what time it is and otherwise ignore my predicament! So rude, lolz!"

I'm often wrong, and I'm not tryna spread gospel here, but in most of my 40+ years of experience being alive around other humans, people usually only hint at actually important things when they either:
A. don't care about the person,
B. want them to fail, or
C. have something intensely personal
(Or for a birthday/surprise, but I mean outside of that, plainly)

So, I feel kinda concerned that she didn't say anything rude, and he objected to receiving super necessary information in a comprehensive and useful manner. (SC: "You have protection; you're the golden goose" MC: "You sure do speak your mind!")

Kinda ripped me out of the story, ngl
