The art and the wardrobe are beautiful. Gosh, I hate abusive parents but abusive mother pissed me a bit more because to me mother is supposed to protect their daughter from things they suffered before. I hope the story gets better and she gets to escape her mother and that toxic society.

i recommend reading the spoilers, it's not like anything in this underwhelming story has anything worth spoiling anyway.

i just finished this and its honestly very disappointing. i was intrigued by the description and it sounded like it would be good, but hardly anything happens at all. there is extremely limited interaction between them, almost all occurring right in the first few chapters. even during those few interactions there was very little chemistry between them, besides
tsubaki randomly flirting (which is implied she only does because she is a prostitute) and then ayano blushing as a result. after those very limited interactions ayano finds out tsubaki is a prostitute and automatically says something relatively negative, which is not outright rude but is something along the lines of "why would you do something like that?". this comment then makes tsubaki leave and then they don't see each other for the many, many chapters. (although there also is the factor that ayano's mom and many others don't accept of ayano being close with a prostitute due to the time this manga was set it in.)

around the second-to-last chapter they finally meet each other and have the opportunity to apologise and such and there. it was THAT easy. but very soon there is a fire in the red-light district and most people escape safely, except for tsubaki as she was not found. in probably the next chapter, ayano boards a ship that's on its way to france. and you guys never wouldve guessed it-- tsubaki was there! and guys... they held hands! oh my golly gosh!

all the "romance" in this is purely implied as there is no confession, no real intimate moments, and hardly any true chemistry at all! as a comment above me says, this is pure yuribait.

this is a relatively quick and short read, but honestly don't even bother.

I like this one, it is so discreet. Little things they do mean a lot because of the difference in their respective social classes and time period. They don't have to flat out say or do things, they know their affection towards each other. Something as discreet as holding pinky fingers. If you think about it, it is a big deal. a rich girl and an oiran???
Just look at the epilogue. That is a couple.

People may not know this; but after the mid 1920s, all the LGBT celebrities in entertainment, art, modeling, etc etc came out for the next ten years as open secrets. If you name a famous movie star, a singer, an artist, a dancer, chances are they were either gay or bi at the time. Just imagine the amount of business Ayano will get if Josephine Baker ordered two dozen dresses...and introduced the both of them to a dozen famous people. Ever heard of "the sewing circle"? Yeah, that include Louise Brooks, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, and Anna May Wong, etc etc. And we are not even talking about dancers, artists, and sculptors. These connections will make the two of them as immortal icons.

So a few years from now, they will be unlikely to be discreet.

BTW, I have ancestors connected to that social scene back in the 20s...so I know, such as who slept with whom, and who was a lousy lesbian. Wish sensei would do some research, the potential of the story can be endless.
