for those curious, that kanji spelling of Kyan is actually super straightforward:

modern Japanese spells it like きゃん
in pre-1905 spelling it would be きやむ
since neither kya nor yan have kanji read that way, you have to give each of those kana its own ateji kanji, which gives 喜屋武
