Friend, lemme tell you about harem bullshit romcoms.

Here is the plot: Plain bullshit nobody average student is a NICE GUY and was NICE to these girls in various ways, like being their friend before they moved away for several years and had a glow up, getting her cat down from a tree, or saying they'll call the cops on dudes harassing her, thus saving her from having her butt rubbed by bad dudes. The kind of stuff any average asshole could do.

This causes these woman to desperately want this clueless dude to do lewd things with them. Progress will be glacial. He might hold a hand, accidentally kiss, or whatever, but will deffo never pick one until the series gets axed or the author ends it themselves after chapters with beach trips, onsen trips, a fireworks festival featuring them in yukatas, and possibly a school festival with a maid cafe.

If you are expecting a deep and compelling plot you are in the wrong place. You want him to be interesting? Fat chance. He is a vessel for lonely nerds to pour themselves into just like the generic OP (or not OP until the second chapter cuz his power 'awakened' and became OP) isekai dude is.

This isn't to say that all isekai or all romcom is this generic but once you start seeing signs you can practically guess upcoming plotlines.
So well said it's the basic jp MC self insert who is usually a beta and afraid to be be near girls and is socially awkward otaku/nerd/average

There's probably like 500+ students in an average japanese school and it only shows 3 girls liking him and only 2 if you don't count the childhood friend. I don't think it's that dramatic or unrealistic.

From my personal experience I also knew 3 different girls that had a crush on me in the same year despite me not really having any memory of doing anything special or interacting with them that much.

To add my 2 cents to this. We were shown how dude basically rizzes the girl from this chapter up, in first chapter he out of nowhere called her cute, this time he told her she is the only one he can talk about stuff like that with. He is basically a walking mental over-thinking everything disaster, but manages to spew "one liners" that rizz the girls up. At least in Chanto - the better version of this manga - dude openly tries to flirt, and/or helps the girls.

The childhood friend - we saw how he probably told her he likes cool girls, and the Cousin - he probably told near her something about liking intelligent/studious girls. So like basically he rizzed all 3 "by mistake" while whining non stop in his own head about who knows what. Call me weird, but if I was supposed to see myself in him - It would be a disgrace - he doesn't seem to be the typical "nobody" thats easy to "see myself as" in most other harems.

As for the personal anecdotes? In HS I met a friend from PS, who basically told me that the girl who was friends with my ex-crush, had a crush on me. Sad thing is? She is far sexier now as grown up than my crush, who I would have hard time recognising on the street, and wouldn't find attractive at all cause probably my tastes changed to much, or rather growing up their facial structures/stuff got more pronounced and my ex-crush ones ended up being "ugly" while the friend who crushed on me ones ended up being sexy?

I also was told in HS by my own grandma, that a girl who IIRC was visiting her as a "room service" or something like that was supposedly in my MS, and had a huge crush on me. Yet I never even talked with her, nor recognised her.

So like RL can be quite similar to mangas. People can have crushes on others even if they didn't once interact to each other. And those people can be "ugly" in the eyes of said crushes. Situations like School Rumble where basically there is a chain of crushes, where dude A crushes on a girl A, who crushes on a boy B, who either has no crush or crushes on girl B and so on are quite common in RL too ;).

As for this manga - based on 2 chapters thus far. I actually kinda don't like it. Characters are kinda weird. Walking landmines/mental disasters. Dude and 3 girls seems to overthink quite a lot, living in their mental bubbles/alternative realities of sorts. Stuff feels weird and/or forced. Premise of the Chanto similar manga was far more "normal". Will give this few more chapters of a chance, mainly to see what manipulative/mastermind kinda thing they tried to pin on the 4th/new girl in Ch1, cause thus far she seems to be the most normal of all the characters lol.

Chanto Suki is way better. MC doesn't looks like generic bland wet blanket self-insert JP MC. In here, it's mostly trying to copy Chanto Suki while also dumped a lot of nonsensical and overused tropes. The girls here also uninteresting af but I guess that's why they liked this MC.
