The saddest part is that those who think they should be romantically together and those who think it should stay platonic because "protecc" would probably all have a great time if they met at a restaurant, bar, or anime con, hanging out with each other and enjoying the company of other manga enthusiasts.

But no, it's the internet, where nuance goes to die and everyone hates each other over stupid bullshit because screens make us stupid. And alone. I hate this century.

EDIT: To understand our current predicament, I would read Johann Hari's "Stolen Focus" which explains why exactly random strangers on the internet argue about manga, finding no outlet for their rage and soaking themselves in misery and loneliness. Spoiler alert: a lot of it has to do with the fact that you weren't allowed to play with other children while growing up, because you were trapped in your rooms with screens, and you failed to gain critical skills in problem-solving and conflict resolution, and found yourself unable to deal with other people who aren't you, and the internet companies swooped in, hacked your brain, promising you an "easy" friction-free life, and made you a miserable addict for their profit - including an addict for arguing with people who are wrong on the internet. Because you never caught to the fact that life isn't a binary black and white due to the sheltered childhood thing because your parents were clueless/negligent and didn't let you outside to play and figure out life. And now your life is fucked and I have to type this paragraph to tell you so. In sum, please demand internet regulation to make the internet less addictive and in the meantime, find ways to stay offline and go touch grass. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!

If people who do evil are to be condemned, why shouldn't people who do good be praised?
Not having sex with a minor isn't a good thing; It's common decency. We're not praising people for not committing crimes.

Common decency is good. You can praise people for doing the right choice, you should actually. Only punishing evil and not rewarding good is how you get people who just want not to be caught, rather than people who actively pursue good. Protestant ethics are not a good outlook.
