Trust me, I've been through similar things before - while I was never stabbed in the kidneys with a knife, my childhood was miserable to the point where things with this level of pain were "Tuesday" for me. (My stepdad was a hard-ass's hard-ass because his own father was so fucked up that he was raised to have no sense of remorse whatsoever.)

And pulling a muscle while doing something like jumping off a deck? That's not "throb-throb". That's "OMFG MAKE THE PAIN STOOOOP!!!" while said muscle locks up harder than a rock and keeps you from moving for a few minutes.

For an injury like that, the "throb-throb" comes much, much later.
