You're not wrong, but what's a main character todo when it's the author that is writing his thoughts and actions. I know we as the audience likes to rationalize it as the Character’s thoughts and action, but authors are notoriously bad in this regard. So let's place the blame where it belongs right squarely in the author's lap.

I'm betting it wasn't enough to bring that man back to his senses based on the assumption that he needs more to treat them.

He's going to need a firehose and some soap to really threat them. Annoyingly, I can't find context for this joke but basically there was a time in the Phillippines when protesters get firehosed when it becomes a riot and because there were a lot of protest and riots at that time, it became a local joke to also bring your own soap so you can get a free bath while protesting. It still happens but protesters here are smarter and calmer so it's been rare to hear in the news that the cops used the firehoses against them nowadays.

All things considered, since Rust even personally knows someone who weaponised fungi a long time ago and there probably are fungus monsters around, you'd think Rust would know a few fungicides. He wouldn't need massive amounts of such substances. He could just use a vapor cloud to deliver it. We know he has cloud magic well under his control.

True only to some extent. Even a world with magic has to have some rules and consistency, some way things actually work. Of course a world having its own logic's gunna have its gaps, but without such logic, anyone could just snap their fingers and win, whatever winning means. The more thorough the rules the better. I think this manga has been doing a pretty decent job at it so far, so I'm sure we'll get some answers still.

so I ran into an obstacle, need some of your opinion

so hidamari, the guy who was translating this series, I think he stopped at chapter 37, cuz I can't find anything beyond chapter 37 on his twitter page (I refuse to call it X). That being said, translations for upto chapters 42 are posted on thunder scans website and chapter 42 is behind paywall on their website. Also, it's done by a different translator and as such some of the names are spelled differently. When I looked the date they uploaded these chapters, they uploaded all 42 chapters in this February (from 21 to 28). I know mangadex has a new policy when uploading a chapter, scanlation group can't have any chapters locked behind paywall on their site. Bruh what do I do? do I upload ch 38-41 or wait for hidamari to do something? frankly speaking, after reading 37 chapters of hidamari's translation, I prefer his translation

Fungicide is easy. Powerful fungicide that doesn't kill people is significantly harder. And I guess we'll have to trust MC's judgment that this potion is their best option for mind-control fungus.

Another thing worth mentioning, is that this is a healing potion. Back when Rihaizam used healing potions, they didn't do him much good. But this potion - it is somehow destructive to Rihaizam's fungi, while still healing humans. So we can expect that damage left by extracting the fungus will be healed by the potion's healing properties.
