This could be a slip up. In chapter 6's draft, it said France then got changed to Europe in the final version, maybe to keep it vague between what readers can infer and nitpick and the research that was done. There are some seemingly unintended mistakes in this part aside that as well. Might be because it is much longer than the normally set page count.

So she was indeed in love with her, possibly still in love with her so has a superior endgame opened up? Or was what was currently suspected as such already faulty? I dunno I think I'm more in favor of the gold lady's Yuri
Thinking back I wonder if one could see the main leads as more master and disciple than actually inevitable romantic partners.... Curious

Rea was suscefully hiding during and after the events of the Night of Witch Hunting but eventually she was caught. In order to protect information about Shien, before the capture she self-induced an amnesia, leaving herself some sort of a clue of how to bring her memories back. Although her interrogators was mostly interested into her alchemy abilities, which she was unable to provide due to amnesia. After interrogators used tortures that yield no results still, she was found unproven in witchcraft and released, but due to intensity of tortures her mind caved deeper into amnesia, so she lost the clue of how to bring back her memories, that left her into this state.

But the most ominous part will be how Rea, a daughter of a very wealthy and respected familyб was caught as a witch, which turn out was done based on a denunciation.
