But given who our FMC is, I can't help but feel this will make our FMC give up. Seeing herself as dark and gloomy and unworthy. I hope that isn't the case, but i am hesitant to say her "helping" will actually help.

I like that its a real threat as well and she can tell machida is serious. If she doesnt do anything there is a very real risk of another girl swooping in and taking her spot.

Ofc she has no idea that machida has zero chance, but she doesnt need to know that lol. If she fails and doesnt go for him she will certainly loose him to competition eventually.
