Japan's job market is way more cutthroat than anything in the west. I'd bet doing something like that would get you much black listed at least from your current work area.
Now would you jeopardize your whole career because your boss wanted to sensationalize your article? You can argue that yes, you would, because that's the right thing to do, but there's an abyss between saying it and doing it.
