It's because he very clearly has depression and is making no effort to hide it, while she likely also has depression and is only making enough of an effort to hide it that he doesn't notice.

Nah I'm with you, maybe it's not something as intense as dread, but I definitely feel the melancholy and the impending sense that something is gonna happen.

I think it's because of the art and the way the characters don't show as much emotion as in other mangas

Theres smth more to this dead husband. For someone that became a widow "1 to 2 years ago" she doenst seem to care too much, as shown by her forgetting her ring and being nonchalant about it. Either shes lying to him bout the marriage and the ring is just an acessory, it was an arranged marriage and she didnt love him, or shes heavily depressed and trying to avoid anything to do with the husband to not trigger trauma.

Oh no shit, I didn't know that /s as someone that was naturally reserved as a teenager this is pushed to the extreme to an annoying extent and feels less believable because this guy 20+ years old. No normal person goes to far extremes like "s-she's hanging out with me, I-Im scared people might think we're a thing" just for being in close proximity within a girl. And if you or someone you know acts like that at your grown age then that's just embarrassing
