My understanding was that after the 15 years he gets the option to travel between here and Earth. So he doesn't have to choose one or the other, he and his family get live on either planet.

In chapter 29 they say

Regarding you, your future wife, and your children, a private network will be established separately to earth, allowing travel to earth whenever desired.
However, partial memory alteration will be carried out. This is to prevent the unnecessary flow of information.

So my interpretation was , if they go to earth, she and the kids get mindwiped and rewritten to fit earthrealm.

I would view it more as separating out the different information hazards of each respective world.

it would be rather inconvenient for one if the kids to be startled and chuck a fireball at a passing car. Conversely it would be rather unfortunate for one to return home and start experimenting with the dangerous spectrums of light on the isekai world. And both directions need filters to remove or immunize against all the background psychological manipulation that we as a modern society inflict on each other.

The kind of information I see them rewriting is not the basic personality traits or what their favorite icecream is, but rather the types of informational or skills that would pollute or cause issues in the other world if carried over.

Not saying it's a perfect solution, only that i can see the Admin wanting to prevent some forms of cross contamination. And while I do find the whole plot device stupid, but it's just par for the course of your average junkfood manga.

It was said the memory alteration will be performed to "prevent unnecessary inflow of civilization". In other words, they want his wife and children to be unable to bring anything from their original world back to Japan. That means significant alterations to at least the wife's memories, including the way she remembers her childhood, parents (who stay where they are) and the way her reality worked, like magic. It's going to make her a different person, no getting around that.

Well, I guess if you're going to live there for 15 years and be expected to give some asshats a nice show, it would help you to have a position of authority. The last thing he needs is said asshats showing up again to inform him ratings are down, so the show's cancelled and the deal's off, let's put you back as if nothing happened.
