Come now. Japan is a very ordered and safe society. Everyone knows their place. Nobody questions. No one does anything evil like tell a lie. If they do, like children who are beginning to learn and question things around them, the only response is a just and righteous punishment like total existential destruction. Thus, survival is selected for good people who know their place and don't do evil things like tell lies, and acceptable society endures.

If they could have been purified, they likely would have already. The weak spirits get purified, the strong devour 1d5 investigators a round. Many stories are cautionary tales, aka "keep your head down and avoid this area/behavior/mindset or get erased from existence by the local omnipotent spirit because there's nothing we can do against it."

I've been wondering about the repairs for a bit.

Like I think the overall deal is that the temple was designed to be a waste management faculty for cursed objects AND a prison for her, a scary thing that can be forced to purify cursed objects. Hence her being smug that each story is breaks more shit.

Only thing is, a lot of the protections are in the room with her and there are a few (mainly the flowers) that need to be replaced regularly. If it's not her who's doing that.
