I think Rei's mother is innocent as wellIve seen 3 families in this manga and not one of them are decent
except maybe the grandma shes just unfortunately old with dementia
You can pity and empathize with shitty people all you want based on their upbringing or situation (e.g. most of Batman's villains were 'victims' of society) but you should never excuse their shitty actions especially for what Rei has caused to an extent which was just complete malice not just playful mischief that real life kids would do. Unless it was complete mind control or he was initially forced to work with Closer under duress, he's responsible for his actions towards Uichi.Gotta love the sheer amount of empathy in these comments. Like, let's just ignore the fact that this kid was manipulated by an adult who played on his insecurities and self-loathing since he was a grade schooler, providing him the first and only meaningful positive reinforcement he had received for most if not his entire life. I mean... fuck's sake people, think back to when you were in elementary school or even middle school. If you think you can honestly say you didn't do any stupid shit as a child, you're either lying, delusional, or amnesiac. And that's without the active, malicious manipulations of an adult.
Rei, frankly, never had a real chance. His father abusively belittled him and his mother, his mother coped by joining a cult of personality that only amplified Rei's belief that people were either "worthless" or "amazing", and he internalized the notion that he was "worthless". He couldn't see any value in himself, so he couldn't understand why Uichi saw any value in him and assumed the worst. Which Clover proceeded to cruelly, maliciously validate and take advantage of to convince Rei- a child- to help make Uichi's life miserable.
As the saying goes; "hate isn't born, it's taught." And for the majority of his life, Rei was taught to hate. First himself by his own father, then Uichi by Clover. And yet, once he started experiencing such vicious bullying in high school and had his family ripped apart by circumstances outside his control, he started empathizing with Uichi. Which, need a remind you, is a hell of a lot more than Yamada or Rikawa ever did. But before he even had the chance to try and make amends- much less even figuring out how- he's put in a position where he either has to keep working with Clover, kill himself, or have his last living relative brutally murdered. And we all see how that turned out.
The kid was manipulated and abused pretty much his entire life. And now, at all of... what, sixteen? He's dead. Forced to kill himself to save his grandmother's life. A teenager is dead because he dared to second-guess the hatred he had been taught, deprived of any chance to make amends or turn his life around. He's not a villain whose death people should be cackling with glee over. He's another victim of Clover and their machinations, and one to be pitied.
And yet, once he started experiencing such vicious bullying in high school and had his family ripped apart by circumstances outside his control, he started empathizing with Uichi. Which, need a remind you, is a hell of a lot more than Yamada or Rikawa ever did.
Well it was probably evidence that he was being fed lies about uchi the whole timeSo whatever secret that he saw was so incredibly messed up that he chose to kill himself rather than continuing to work for them.
I can say i didn't lead someone to wanting to off themselvesIf you think you can honestly say you didn't do any stupid shit as a child, you're either lying, delusional, or amnesiac.
Yep, agree with you on this! The "Empathy" crowd sure seems to forget he KNOWS what Uchi is going through, largely BECAUSE OF HIM, yet he continues to believe he isn't wrong and Uchi is scum.......and a reminder to THOSE people that "He thought Uchi was scum LONG BEFORE Clover showed up!" All Clover did was "convince him" his opinion of Uchi was in the right! Even when faced with WORSE harships he KNOWS Uchi is going through, he STILL clung to "Uchi is a bastard, he was only NICE to me back then to make a fool out of me, I'm NOT IN THE WRONG!" (That last part is WHY he triples down when the guilt kicks in! If he admits that what he did to Uchi is wrong, then he accepts he's a HORRIBLE PERSON and his already low opinion of himselfI can say i didn't lead someone to wanting to off themselves
True, I do feel bad about her situation and eventual death trying to care for her mother and son by herself (Wonder where his father is! Likely still being a worthless existance I suppose! Or knowing him he started another family and fucked that up royally as well!)I think Rei's mother is innocent as well
