That shit honestly went TOO smoothly... I'm permanently scarred by all the manga ive read where one character acted like the most mature and understanding person just to actually turn in around the next chapter as a big ''gotcha'' to the readers.

I know it's not that kind of manga at all, but I can't help feel nervous until I'm shown I was worrying over nothing lol

Glad this ended amicably, very curious to see where the story goes from here since the major bit of potential drama now seems to be over. I hope it doesn't end any time soon.
I wouldn't call him major drama since he didn't really do much and they barely talked about him but I get what you mean. I wonder where they go from here. The series isn't really about anything so who knows.

I kinda like that it's not really about anything. Just means the author can do whatever they want, really, without being tied down to rails or expectations.

Though, it does sorta feel like an exploration for Ritsu to figure out what she actually wants from life, rather than simply having things foisted upon her (like a boyfriend by their entire class) and otherwise just doing what's expected of her a lot of the time.

So..."MC discovers agency", with a heaping helping of cute yuri SoL fluff, I suppose.

But I hope it goes up and through high school or time skips and shows them actually nail down a relationship with Yarai also finding her footing in the social sense and them being able to be Out 'n' Proud as a couple around school.

Uh that went surprisingly smoothly, so what was the point of her even having a boyfriend in the first place?
narrative structure wise: to give our two lovebirds an excuse to even meet up and get started in the first place

in universe: comphet

Additionally - They basically pushed together by their classmates.
Like, he confessed to her, but it was at the constant egging-on (the manga's wording) by her friend group, and then a lot of her feelings about it in chapter 1 involved it seeming more like she and Shouya were putting on a play for their circle, than in any relationship of their own volition.

It's why she felt so distant from him and their dating situation from the get-go. She just went along with it because she figured it was too much hassle and she didn't want to make a fuss.

So really, I'd posit that Shouya was also meant to set Ritsu up to be ambivalent (or perhaps even somewhat jaded) about love and dating at the outset, so that Yayoi could come along and bust her reservations wide open by opening her eyes to what it's actually like, and why lots of people enjoy being in love and dating.

Goddamn shouya what a superchad ex. Love how this is smoothly this is going and how thoughtful and mature (tho a little unrealistic for a high-school boy) shouya is
