It would be very interesting if Onihime actually got Madoko and Touri together for the sake of perpetuating the Mike line, but came to like being around them and sorta became a guardian of sorts, protecting the Mike line as much as "cultivating" it for her own offering needs.

The manga would require time skips though wherein she's with them until old age, probably, but it could be Touri and Madoko coming to accept Orihime (with stuff like calamity prevention/Orihime changing her nature through 'the power of love and friendship' to become more like a true steward of the region) and then, finally happy & fulfilled in his twilight years, she devours Madoko and then goes back to sleep for a few centuries, or something. Touri passes on shortly after, having known a life of fulfillment where she has successfully "solved" the Onihime problem and turned a wrathful demon princess into a protector of both the Mike line but also the region against other, malicious supernatural forces.

And Madoko and Touri get a happy life together with a guardian oni princess who watches over them and their children/family until that point and then beyond.
Not saying it'll go that way at all, but I think there's a line where a story like that could actually work.



As far as this one goes though, I already enjoy the dynamic between Orihime and Touri. The latter being so easily flustered after all her bluster as part of the Protector Bloodline is a nice little gap.

Sounds like it's not the story for you, if the premise involving a literal demon who feeds on a specific bloodline being invested in restoring said bloodline to ensure her food supply is "weirding you out".

Makoto only just seems to have even accepted that she's even the actual demon she says she is. For the first chapter and first half of the second, he kept referring to her as a cosplayer, and even now just calls her a weirdo.

She's also a known entity in terms of the mythology of the town they live in, going back centuries' worth of time, and the lore surrounding her being is well-established, right down to the significance of the Mike bloodline.

Touri's own bloodline is directly responsible for exorcising/otherwise controlling the demon princess. She's been raised within that mindset, clearly, given how immediately she jumps to wanting to protect Makoto from Orihime. (The reason she isn't successful, is because she's a novice with no 'real world experience' dealing with supernatural entities, as Orihime was sealed for centuries up to this point anyway.)
We see her own grandmother treat Orihime with veneration and offer her food and hospitality. I'm not supremely knowledgeable about historical Japanese customs when it comes to spirits and deity worship, but they do care a lot about the concept of respect toward those seen as 'higher beings', including their deceased and the multitudes of kami and other spiritual entities that Shinto is based around. Even a demonic being who demanded sacrifice would be worthy of worship and respect, as we're told that Orihime did also prevent and divert disasters in the past that were wrought by other supernatural forces. That alone shows she's not simply a murderous being.

And very importantly - Makoto himself has given up on his life and is convinced that it doesn't matter, because he'll never be happy enough anyway for his life to be in danger as a Mike. He simply doesn't care in the wake of the tragedy he's faced.


Orihime's a deity-like being. Yes, she ate the Mike line as part of the process of maintaining her power, but we have already seen it's more complicated than that. She's also greatly weakened by virtue of having been sealed for so long, so she doesn't presently pose much of a threat, and is more of an annoying freeloader than powerful demonic entity. She has proclaimed to protect and nurture Makoto until his lot in life improves, and even seems intent on pushing him and Touri together, which apparently would benefit Touri, seemingly smitten with Makoto as she is.



Like....yeah. This is dealing with a demon princess as the female lead of a love story. If anything, I'm glad the author's making her relatistic in terms of what she would actually be as a mythological figure within the story, and the inherent tension of her wanting to eat the male lead means that the story has something to push against as the characters clash and grow through the experiences they undergo.

We definitely have justification for why she's not being immediately exorcised here and now, though, so if it's that objectionable, I simply think it's going to not be an enjoyable read for anyone who can't let go of that angle of the plot.

I mean sure, suspension of disbelief is a thing but at least make it make sense, genre wise. Just makes for a weird romcom premise.

Usually how these stories work is the records painting the demons as bad guys are "misunderstanings" due to fear or racism or whatever, they do not tell the truth or the whole picture. Here, however, we got first-hand confirmation they are true. The grandmother has no reason - given what the story presented us - to be friendly and welcoming.

I can accept an author not giving us the full picture or information from the start and building from it, but if you choose give it to us and then proceed to ignore it that's a plot hole.

I'll see how the story proceeds, but I'm skeptical.

Sounds like you have plenty of reasons to not read the story then.

Because from where I'm sitting, you're picked at one of the two leads so much and found the idea so objectionable from the outset that then saying "I'll see how it goes from here, BUT" feels like we'll be right back here at chapter three with you raising the same complaints all over again.

japanese literally says "Mi-Ke" so translating it "Mi-keh" or "Mei-ke" is just wrong. even if its "localized" version. I just hope my two TL notes on this made guys understand that it is pronounced as "Mee-Keh".
