Here's a weird tangent and it has to do with Ninja Gaiden.
In the 2nd chapter, after you beat first level which may be 30min. Ryu dies to Doku in a cutscene where Doku wiped out Ryu's village. 10 seconds later of real playtime he's revived by the falcon spirit, fully healed, and game resumes to chapter 3 where he's looking for revenge.
The story never addresses the "death" again, gives it any lasting consequences, or explores the implications. It'd be no different if he simply arrived too late to save his clan/childhood frend and swear revenge.

Normally, following that initial set up you would play as a new character, then you can have Ryu be alive reveal much later in the game for a twist and take over. Or you can do a Sixth Sense twist at the end to say he's dead the entire time or whatever and can rest now that he avenged everyone and destroyed the ultimate evil.

Except they didn't do that and in all the sequels he's simply alive again and rebuilding the village, being a living legend that other characters know and respect and can interact with. So what's the point of even having him "die" to Doku?

In this story, the whole Shurine left her country because her original mistress was murdered (mystery never solved), and she's moved to a new country where they simply stopped chasing her. And now she meets her new mistress and helps deal with problems pertaining to Lutecia. Normally the point of the initial set up is to make Shurine's prior baggage constantly a factor so it's impossible for her to juggle alongside Lutecia's problems. Imagine right now they can't even have a duel because her former country/employer's people are interrupting, seeking justice from her and now it's a 3-way conflict.

As it stands now if that plot thread doesn't continue, then Shurine might as well started her day 1 in the train and met Lutecia.

Apparently, everyone in this government/kingdom is a selfish bastard and they're just okay with that. Most corrupt fictional organisation I've ever seen in manga.

This parts feels more eerie than reading the WN, the mangaka did a good job with that panel placement

well we all know she will win the duel
but the question is how will the prince react
looking forward to it
Probably badly, which will be the point. The Prince wanted a public spectacle and his arrogance makes him think he is untouchable. Now there are a few options: things start to not go his way in the duel and he tries to cheat, bruising his standing with the people and boosting the Princess’ standing and claim to the throne in the eyes of the public. He loses and refuses to hand over Lutecia making the crowd turn on him. Or he loses, hands over Lutecia and his standing is STILL marred by the loss, but that seems least likely. Whilst winning the duel is Shurine’s immediate goal, the long play is letting the Prince publicly humiliate himself.

I keep coming back to Claude and how weirdly levelheaded they are.

Which...I think I kinda like your first option, only it's Claude--who expressed an observance of honor when Shirune first encountered them--is offended by the Prince's bullshit and turns on him then and there for interfering once again in what should have been a code-of-conduct 1v1 with Shirune.

But that could be me forcing Claude into a specific character role for the story, and my continued personal hope that there's secretly a buffed-out knight lady under that helmet (and that the name is either misdirection, or just the author going "sure that sounds like it could be unisex in the West, why not").

I thought you were going to do some meme or a punchline with how you opened you comment, I was not expecting to get YouTube video essay'd instead.
You make a great point.

Time to swing swords ladies and gents! Hoping for an epic showdown in the next chapter. Shurine, go show em all!!

But I wish male antagonists were less of a caricature in yuri. It’s just it’s so easy to pick sides. I wish there was more nuance to them. Accepts for that the manga is really gripping and the art style is great. Hope it’s not gonna end directly after Lutecia is saved.

OFF WITH HIS HEAD, SHURINE!!

Hopefully he won’t use any shi that could be considered “cheating” because I would be SO pissed yo😭✌🏻

Thank you for the new chapter!
