I'm not sure if I should read the ropes leading into shadow as they're cut and so everyone in there probably is dead or the ropes are NOT cut but for some reason they still can't pull the people back.

I might be reading too much into it but the fact that the ropes all lead in different directions implies that the "trap" might be that the world through the Door into Summer is simply more enticing than the world they left behind. If the other side is in eternal Summer I know plenty of people who would love to never have to deal with cold weather or snow again. Not me though, give me a Door into Autumn or Winter.

Yeaahhh...
An embarassing episode from my later teenage years is trying to find a copy of it in used book stores, because I heard that it was a good book. When I told a friend, she was visibly put off and at the time I did not understand why. Only after actually finding the book did I see a brief plot summary and then realise that maybe I don't actually want to read it all that much.

The moral of the story? Don't take your book recommendations from imageboards, even when it comes to sci-fi (I hope you can cut the teenage me some slack for missing something this obvious).
