That legend of dying after reading a second book sounds made up to me, it smells like a tactic used by either a skill book holder wanting to hoard skill books for themselves, or someone without a skill book wanting a chance at acquiring one, so anyone getting a second skill book decides to sell it instead of attempting to acquiring a new skill through the second book.

It sounds like a convenient plot way to involve the roommate in dungeon clearing to me.

I mean, you're not wrong, didn't MC reject her joining him in a dungeon once before, because he was too afraid she wouldn't be able to protect herself? But, then again, I vaguely remember she and the spirits entering a dungeon once or twice before without him. My memory sucks, what did I have for dinner yesterday?
Anyway, I can definitely see this being a convenient plot to involve his childhood friend that has the hots for him, with a skill of her own, he would be less likely to reject her participating in dungeon delving.

weird that a vampire would change into a werewolf
Traditionally, vampires could change into bats and wolves, and command them as well...
The whole vampire v/s werewolf thing is a product of modern Millennial erotica fantasy shizzle.
