The harem genre has always been mostly archetype girls like tsundere all falling in love with and average nice guy for no reason. And Rumiko's manga hardly can be considered harem. Maybe Ranma a Little bit. There Is exceptions. But most old stuff follow the "OMG he did a minor nice thing for me like giving me directions, i'm so in love now" trope.
