The self-masturbation in this one is a willy too strong, when the narrator keeps hammering on: "I AM SO APPRECIATED IN THIS MAGICAL PLACE" within every other panel.
It's like reading someone's escapist diary. Can't get into it.

Every comic is selling some kind of vibe. This one is just selling the vibe of finding a place of belonging and purpose.
Some other sell adventure, sexual fetishes, feeling of dominance and badassery, exploration, growth and advancement, romance, bromance, humor and challenges. Some focus on one specific theme. Some make an amalgam of multiple things that build something with broad definition.
Saying that just this comic is an escapist handjob is like saying that only vaginal sex with a prostitute counts as prostitution
Besides, anything you do for the sake of your emotions that does not involves your identity interacting with world and intentionally leaving a mark that others can see can be called an escapism.

I don't recall jack about this story, but going over my old comment, all I can say is: there's this thing called Being Subtle, and Screaming It Constantly.
It seems like this manga is the latter.

EDIT: Looking at chapters further ahead, it seems to be more weird and goofy than "comforting", at least the ones I flipped through. Welp, whatever.

I guess you have specific taste and triggers.
You were probably lucky enough to never experience the feeling of being unappreciated and helpless or you are just young, which makes this unrelatable to you.
I personally wouldn't agree on Screaming It Constantly part as to me looks like a character setting at the beginning and occasional look back on how he is dealing with it now in situations where his skills can actually shine.
The content is usually very condensed in chapters, focusing at straight to the point action or interactions as the author probably does not have much page space in his publication or just prefers this tempo.
I generally love all of the characters in the story and their mix of silly and harsh backgrounds. Sad how you stumbled on one triggering thing and failed to notice other good things in the story.
You should probably stick to stories with perfect from beginning MCs that have no self doubts and just always triumph with max aura.

Someone needs tor remove erotica and sexual violence tags, as there are really not any -_-
There is no depictions of actual sexual acts or actual sexual violence.
There is not even much depiction of nudity.
The closest thing to these tags was when the knight girl Raelza was stranded and captured by high incubus thing that would impregnate her wile giving her the halucinations of Saito, but she was saved, and even that depiction was tame -_-
