Barbarians didn't call themselves barbarian. It was a term invented by people who fancied themselves more advanced than some others. They called barbarians those they viewed as less advanced.

Maybe the chinese term for barbarian has different meaning/vibe than english one?

A fair point.
After a little research the Mongolians who I would assume they were based on didn’t have a specific name for themselves until they were untied under Genghis Khan then they called themselves chosen by tengri who was one of their gods so if they call their gods barbarian gods it would make sense for them to call themselves barbarians
