What a nice surprise. Their outfits look similar to a gakuran and a seifuku.

Ey @jawsh, it's kinda crazy you do this and Baki. Thanks for introducing me to Veil and other things, this stuff is cheesy but heartwarming.

Thanks for reading both! My scanlation library can definitely seem wildly inconsistent but I've actually thought about Veil and Baki side by side before and feel like there's some pretty similar stuff; both series treat love as a bit of a concept beyond words and description, opting to show it through quiet action. Kozue's talk with Alai Jr. in part 3 comes to mind mostly, about how what she shares with Baki isn't something that she can feel with just anyone despite what little time they may spend together. There's also the very sweet scene of her and Baki holding hands that I feel has some similarly tender panelling to Veil.

That's quite interesting, I've never thought about Baki that way. In fact, I always thought that the romantic plots from The Grappler were mudding the "purity" of the martial arts stuff.

I guess Itagaki must be into romance in his own way, apparently the word "romance" in Japanese is understood more broadly, as in "intense emotions and passion towards a thing". I'm no expert though.

He's definitely got a big interest in it, some of his earlier work has a lot more focus on it. Make Upper is pretty female-centric and he did a oneshot titled Maria that was all about finding "the one" (https://mangadex.org/chapter/291fa0ff-b635-4f73-8508-f81bbf7a595d). I wrote an analytical essay at the end of it preempting meat-headed Baki fans thinking it was some terrible bullshit about a random whore instead of the bizarre yet tender portrayal of lovers it's supposed to be.
