I had the same initial reaction as the dude you were replying to, since the timeline wasn't clear at first, which made it sound like it was very soon after; once it was stated that her father died while she was a child, though... Well, that makes it a 10-15 year gap, which I think is perfectly fine.

Hold on, Pg 18 Kei assigned Naomi to the kitchen to cook and he accepts the role, but he complains when someone proposes to actually have him cook, and then on Pg 21 Kei reveals that they didn't actually cook anything and always just order in delivery. The chain of events is a mess.

Note that on page 18 he's told to handle the food, not cook. Translating the menu on page 19 would've helped explain what "handling the food" means. The menu is something like:

1. Mixed nuts
2. Assorted cheese
3. Assorted fruits
4. Green salad
5. Cured ham
6. French fries
7. Garlic toast

I can see why he'd think that taking care of that doesn't really require cooking.

Considering the items on that list, my point still stands. If the entire menu is stuff that is prepackaged and requires no cooking then they wouldn't need kitchen staff, so he should know the role would require at least some cooking, even if it's just salting chips and chucking them in the oven for a bit.

Also, they know the menu. You know, the menu that is then admitted to be composed almost entire of delivered items? Further reinforcing that he should have known he'd be cooking when he was assigned to the kitchen, because he didn't know all those menu items were ordered from other stores until after he'd properly accepted the cooking role.
