Hell of an axe cut, but if I'm being honest, I felt like the story didn't have much elsewhere to go anyway.
It had plenty of places it
could go, but regardless of whether it
would go to those places, it
should have gone to them much earlier. Her oni
boyfriend companion has a whole backstory that just stops being important, and there was potentially an entire arc they could have made of the Alraune queen meeting other survivors from her fallen kingdom. I don't know if the novel is like this or the manga was just a bad adaptation, but it was so unfocused and constantly missed chances for interesting developments. Really a shame.
Also it's kinda funny how partway through, the kids who were there from the start just became background characters who occasionally get one or two lines, while characters introduced after them have a ton of screentime even after their initial arcs.
