Long-winded, and while I wouldn't say nothing happens - seemingly a few things do, and major things, too, - it affects the characters' personalities so little, and the characters themselves are so one-note, it's simply boring to read. The only passably intense chapter is 7. 5/10

For those that may not know, Akimi Yoshida kiiiinda? intersects Umimachi Diary with Lovers' Kiss, a short series she drew and released in 1995, that also happens in Kamakura and I think some outlets (specifically after Utagawa Hyakkei came out, a few years ago) mention these two are part of a trilogy of sea side town's stories that she eventually came to write about. Technically, the trilogy would mean they are connected, but the only one that really serve as "sequel"/"spin-off" is Utagawa Hyakkei, which happens years after UD finishes and focuses on Suzu's half-sibling that was "left behind" in Utagawa, so to speak.

So, while characters from Lovers' Kiss DO appear in Umimachi Diary in some kind of tertiary roles or extras, they do not share the same... let's say, same stories as they had in Lovers' Kiss.

Spoiler: Stuff about spoilers in Lovers' Kiss in context with Umimachi Diary

For example, the timelines? for obvious reasons, do not coincide (Yoshino dating Tomoaki, in context of Lovers' Kiss doesn't make sense... but the rest of his backstory, from what I remember, is more or less the same in context with events altered in UD. A parallel story if you will.

Although if you want to see the other side of the coin, some of the tragedies in LK could be avoided and end on a happier note in UD, even if it's VERY, VEEEERY in the background of what happens in Kamakura and the Kouda sisters.
