It's actually a nice joke in this series' case when Hiro wanted to stay away from nobles, to avoid getting tied into their power plays and politics, in order to remain an unfettered mercenary. Instead he's associating with them all the time, receiving awards granted by nobles/royals, and even his harem turns out to include a noble daughter. Or possibly two.

Aye, I'd also be quite surprised if Serena doesn't end up with him. I just won't count her in yet because he has fulfilled his boyfriend duties properly with the other girls, so I'd say that's what it takes to be in his harem in this story, unlike in the vast majority of manga. That being said, I wouldn't consider it impossible if Serena actually continued in the military despite becoming his girlfriend/wife. They would meet only occasionally, but both could continue doing what they love. There are couples like that in RL. Even if children naturally change things.

Can't say for sure, haven't watched the anime for that one. Could be the fault of the author.

For a vast majority of anime it seems like the creator just hands a rough synopsis to a studio and does no oversight. Just expects them to make magic happen.

The Empire didn't exist in SOL, and he didn't recognize the system names. The only reason he "knew" where the Mother Crystal was is because Pulsars aren't very common stars, and they figured that they were close to the origin point already.

I like how Elma and Hiro handled it. It felt pretty mature - especially since plenty of time for Elma to still book it versus waiting until the end.
