Manga repeatedly present a stupid fantasy about child-abuse. Abusers are not cured by hugs, and children do not rebound from the experience of significant abuse.

Tbf, I think in this specific series, it's a little bit nuanced. Sure, I also don't agree how this specific chapter "resolves" the issue, it's a very serious situation that needs more thought to be resolved than simple hugs and a chat with the abuser for them to "get better"... but you also have to consider that this series is a little more fantastical ( a little "good things happen to good people if they keep perseverance") and that some stuff is going to be solved in an easier way because its purpose is not to make the characters and the readers suffer more than what it's already presented enough (hence the author mentioning in past afterwords about wanting a "way" to connect her original one-shot featuring future versions of Sue and Nozomi with the current canon story/timeline, when there are simple ways to ignore that specific story). It doesn't necessarily need to reflect reality in a 1:1 ratio.

I don't want to say that the author might be "ignorant", and here is where I go with the nuance. In the last chapter, Sue tells us about a kid that she knew that was also abused and that kid continued to be violent or something, even before she transferred from school. We don't know what happened to the kid, and neither does Sue.

Also, we also know of a case of abuse through negligence, in the case of Akira and his mother... and the guy simply left his house and the mother never truly accepted that her son "ran away", so to speak to marry and have a kid as young (and then he passed away for a construction/job incident) and the mother still doesn't seem to reconcile with the fact of the damage (lack of trust, for starters) she made to her son and still blaming Sue for him leaving and ALSO dying... we had an arc where it looked she thought that forcing Nozomi to live with her would put a bandage of doing "something good"... but still isolating Sue in the proces because "she is a bad woman" or some crap like that. And she didn't faced them again after her plans to "eliminate" her from the picture (so far).

There are better manga or manhwa series that illustrate abused children (ie the Korean Homeless/No Home webtoon which features a couple of teenagers going through rough times in their actual home lives) and how "talking" to the abuser doesn't really solve anything. This manga's purpose is not that.
