Author did a great job of just inserting us into the family dynamics of both of them, while making it feel like a simple peek into ongoing lives and long-established relationships. No weird, jarring exposition introducing character backstories by way of walls of text or anything, and it's kind of neat to see it done so organically and unforced like this.
I kinda expected that we'd see them hit every "relationship marker" before even officially confessing their feelings, and that included meeting families for both of them. Not sure if that'll shake out before a confession after the ending of this chapter, but I do think it'd be rather funny.
