Don't know enough about steam locomotives (or trains in general, really) to single a model out. Steam ones are very neat all-around, though.
Diesel's more clear-cut. I like the 40s - 60s EMD design-style, like the S301 you posted. Cute noses, with that nice big central headlight. Neither just a boring slope nor a boxy mess.
