@Manko-sensei "Fake Spanish" what do you mean "fake"? Isn't Spanish already fake Portuguese? (I'M AN EXTREMIST ULTRA-RIGHT-WING PORTUGUESE PATRIOT RAAAAA) (FUCK YOU SPAIN GIVE US OLIVENÇA AND THE WORLD HALF YOU TOOK FROM US)
@Blocky_Mudkip yeah!in the same thread I saw the author post his Ai shenanigans, he says her second language is Portuguese (wich makes me somewhat proud) but as we all know, mainstream Portuguese is the Brasil kind, so it's gonna get REAL janky with Google translate PT-BR->JP and back to EN
I know some yuri doujinshi series with basically Spanish that has been translated word by word and... it simply sounds terrible. Well, if you want to hear a couple of words in Portuguese Brazilian which are more or less the same process... watch Narenare Hare from this season, an anime about cheering with ugly CGI. I can assure you you'll be disappointed.
Any time more than two languages are involved, and one is Japanese (which is quite unique linguistically) and one is English (which is just fucked up beyond any sane level), the results are going to be hilariously contorted.
I just read that X post, like authors or editors ever bother making any sense with foreign names or sentences... if they stopped googling everything and ask for competent or native people, they'd stop embarassing themselves...
As an American, there are times I look at some Japanese representations of other cultures and think, 'Damn, even I think that's culturally insensitive as hell.'
I think nowadays they're on par with far-right people when it comes to African people (or African American), their stereotypes are extremely racist without even realising. Want a violent tribe, a foreigner hulk or a NTR guy? A black person is the automatic choice, there's a shitty manga that keeps being scanlated here called Ingoshima, in less than one chapter you have enough. And well, someone that even Panda may recall, have you played the first Turok in the 90s?
Didn't play that one, no - was too busy playing GoldenEye. (First time I saw a console freeze was in a 4P match with friends - none of us knew what had just happened.)
But let me throw out my own 'favorite' stereotypical black manga character:
Ha ha, absolutely, almost all the millennials have seen him if they watched anime in the 90s. GoldenEye didn't have black people but they made Russians staggering ugly, you could even turn them into nederoids with small bodies and huge heads.
This is the totally plausible Brazilian character of Na-Nare Hana-Hare, I think in the whole series have only said three Portuguese words and the English used in the series is as terrible as always. It's just ridiculous they used two cities as a person's name (both first and surname) and mixed up even more out of place surnames. And they don't see anything wrong with that. This is a classic video that sounds like a parody but isn't.
AVEIRO THATS MY LAND I LOVE AVEIRO, THE PORTUGUESE VENICE!!!! I LOVE THE RIA, I LOVE THE BICYCLE HERITAGE, I LOVE THE PÃO DE LÓ DE OVAR I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY LAND
Over/under on how many chapters before she wears a Carnival samba outfit?
