it can download both mp3 and mp4, and I can tell you it's not sketchy because I've been using it for the past few years.

I use Cobalt. No ads, straight to the point, and customizable settings.

Not that often...
Sometimes, i download YouTube videos when a family member needs or tutorials that I am currently learning on,
Or a song that I want to remix.
In this case, I am downloading a 9 years old song for those kids at church who need it for Christmas.
