This scene is really fucking strange. Preceding this scene was them getting arrested. Like I think this is meant to be inside Mia's mind since they are happy and can be together forever(not really because Mako probably has a longer jail sentence ) I think the reason they're shown as children here is because that was when they were last truly happy together.
