Any high school anime with onsen and beach episode would be cooked.

Naruto, konosuba, Jojo, mushoku Tensei, tensura.

a government proposing an anti anime law?
insisting it's to protect kids instead of properly funding anti-child abuse services?
despite the scientific evidence pointing to this stuff putting kids in as much danger as violent video games?
must be Tuesday

anyways, to quote Dexerto;

Senate Bill 20 is intended to be rolled out as an amendment to Chapter 43 of Texas’ penal code, with the section reading as follows: “A person commits an offense if the person knowingly possesses, accesses with intent to view, or promotes obscene visual material containing a depiction that appears to be of a child younger than 18 years of age engaging in activities described by Section 43.21(a)(1)(B), regardless of whether the depiction is an image of an actual child, a cartoon or animation, or an image created using an artificial intelligence application or other computer software.”

That said, the activities described by Section 43.21(a)(1)(B) are, by design, up to interpretation. Though they describe the standard acts that would be considered deplorable by most, the definition of “obscene” material ends with this line: “[Material or a performance that] taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, and scientific value”.

it's a roundabout way to let the government ban media it doesn't like under the guise of "protecting kids"
no idea why this is being flouted as an anti-anime bill when it could ban so so much more
(mods please be gentle)

The so called "would be considered deplorable by the most" Is easily twisted. Remember Twitter drama while ago on dandandan with chibireview post about naked Momo and okarun, everyone outrage even tho it's far far from anything deplorable.

It's started one state...

Soon every state would adapt it, I'm concerned since this site is American based and would get shut down if all the America applying this law.

Also not just anime, game too would change

This is complicated enough that 600 characters isn't sufficient to address some of the nuance, and we're also teetering on the edge of the legal vs. political distinction so I'm not sure I'd want to do that in depth here anyway.

Short version: From a legal standpoint, I'm not particularly worried until I see a case that holds up in court.

@Angry_Panda I am too used to see things censored (banned) in USA that seeing another one makes me feel indiferent. Now I understand why the San Diego Con will be held in Spain for three years starting this year.

Whether or not it goes through, it's very worrying that there is people online celebrating this as a 'own to the anime weirdos'.. I miss when anime wasn't mainstream. :huh:

@BakedBanana have you perhaps forgotten when certain individuals celebrated also online that a person set on fire KyotoAni? Well, in the 90s there were also parents alarmed at Japanese animation because Shin Chan was not a good example for children... (even if it was)

@Manko-sensei
I forgot about that, and now I'm annoyed again. At least the arsonist is going to be sentence to death.
