and cookers really seem like magicians. putting stuff in specific amounts, without ever needing to use a scale. I kinda want to do it, but I'm broke, so....
Cooking yourself is, from a money standpoint, rather cheap, actually.
Like, I can cook myself a hackfleischgeschnetzeltes for around €6.50 a portion, with one cooking session usually making two.
The investment you need to do is to use time.
And learning... Either you learn from your parents or you start out following a few recipes. Repetition will make it come naturally, and then you start the phase of altering the recipe to fit your taste better.
Maybe start out with cooking yourselves noodles/rice and then applying a good Pesto/Butter + Curry powder to get a feel for cooking as a starter.
I'm a woman that doesn't like to cook, cuz it's tiring and make me lost my appetite after a long process to make something that I want to eat (I forgot to mention, especially Indonesian foods). The only food I'm good at cooking by myself is always eggs, scrambled, fried, boiled, omelette. That's all I can cook. But I could make Sambal. Hmm.. I think I'll survive even though I don't have anyone to cook for me.
