I didn't even do anything to deserve it. Does trying to take a stand comes with so much repercussions? I didn't even do anything wrong against anybody.....I feel like crying.

Presumably, because this is in a public area (the outside of your door, facing a hallway), someone from maintenance will be involved cleaning it up - be polite and thank them. Treating the people who are normally 'in the background' as actual people will go a long way toward getting them on your side, which may be useful down the line.
