I don't know what's the manga you're talking about, but it remind me the case of Black Torch. A short 5 tomes shonen manga that will have its adaptation nearly 10 years after being published.

They've started to air old films in cinemas recently; they finally realised how much time and effort it takes to make a new film just to keep cinemas running, only relying on fresh content...
If an old story that has a good fan base hasn't yet been milked dry (excuse the expression,) then why waste the potential free (not free, easier to grab like I mentioned) money?
