It's easier, less time-consuming, and cheaper to work from a base than to create everything from scratch.
They've started to air old films in cinemas recently; they finally realised how much time and effort it takes to make a new film just to keep cinemas running, only relying on fresh content... :kek:
If an old story that has a good fan base hasn't yet been milked dry (excuse the expression,) then why waste the potential free (not free, easier to grab like I mentioned) money? :)

I don't know what's the manga you're talking about, but it remind me the case of Black Torch. A short 5 tomes shonen manga that will have its adaptation nearly 10 years after being published.

yeah, I made the same comment back when Black Torch anime was announced.
