As I understand it, there used to be yuri and shoujo-ai. However, these terms are now considered outdated. Nowadays, everything falls under the umbrella of "girls' love."

GL can be both be SFW and NSFW, as long as there is lesbian romance of any kind.
Either way, it's not worth having a feud about. You both love the same things, so it makes more sense to set aside whatever differences you two have and go back to enjoying the things you love.

I always understood it the opposite way. GL is a superset that encompasses yuri and shoujo-ai and allows for relationships that are not explicitly stated (i.e., undertones and subtext).
