Light novels are not real literature so it's understandable. And well, Sanderson is just a best-selling author, irrelevant when it comes to literature.

I dont understand, how are light novels not literature? I've read a lot of books and the only difference I can tell between them and the light novels Ive read is the inclusion of pictures, but even then, a light novel volume of 300 pages has like 5 pages worth of pictures. The rest looks indistinguishable from other books
What are you considering as literature here? I dont know why Brandon Sanderson's stuff wouldnt count, his books also seem like they have the same format of any other book Ive read, does that make like 99% of books ever not literature? Im a little confused

It's the same thing just as you don't consider "It end with us" or anything written by Colleen Hoover as actual literature, or an even better example, "Twilight", would you consider hot vampire man and a normal high school girl shagging it out a literature????

Thats taking it upon my own preferences to dictate what qualifies or not as art, but ultimately those examples are all literature

There is difference between commerical fiction and literature. Commerical fiction is basically the books made for fast paced market, the book is not driven by the idea but rather the characters, most manga and web novel fall in this category, their stories are meant to entertain the masses, once the audience changes, no one remembers the book, it is replaced by another commerical book. In layman's term it's called slop.

Art isnt supposed to just be things that are impactful in the long term. You shouldnt evaluate it based on its outcome, on how it was remembered and regarded to by other people.
As long as it was made with a purpose, and there were emotions involved with it's creation, then its art. I wouldnt disregard a writer's earnest feelings that they put down into a story simply because it was basic, its something they wanted to make simply for the sake of making art.
