I think it is because the moment you try to use some kind of magic spell while it is still sword it would turn into magic staff. if it worked like that then it would put the swordman in danger

even if it is illegal he has no choice. if he refuse it is obvious they will do something to him. remember her family got connections to goverments. He got nothing, he is alone with no backing of anyone.

I mean. think about it. people in this world are kinda strong. and he cant fight since he is weak normal person. if someone from kingdom learned that he can make portal back to other world and stuff the bad people might catch him and torture him to open the portal and abuse it

No. that one magic she used its like all the magic she could of had in the future if she trained and stuff in her life time but she used all of it and lost the ability to use magic. to use that she sacrificed the potention magic she could of had if she just practiced normally
