That's an idea for a oneshot, the mob characters have to try desperately to stay relevant to the story or they get dragged kicking and screaming into the void that's lingering just out of view. The mob characters are aware of this at all times.

As someone who is distracted easily by multitasking while cooking, setting a cooking timer is extremely important. I don't burn anything (anymore lol) purely because of that, though it helps to just stop leaving cooking food unattended. Almost burning your house down will do that to you.
