To be honest I don't remember much of this series' lore up to this point, but I imagine Yotsuha wants to eliminate him regardless of his intentions / plans purely because he's something out of her control and influence. He's an errant factor in her future.

Clever imagery. The backgrounds are all the same besides for the mother. Potentially representing this heavy "atmosphere" they're all feeling. Or because she is literally in a different place. ...It would be really embarrasing if she is actually still alive, and this means nothing, to be honest.
