@Panino They're not really going to escape, Ella's goal is to earn the right to become a nun and get the audience with the leader in three years. The main reason they're going out into the forest is to get some food that's not drugged.

@Panino I had the same question and figured it's either that or the wall is much more difficult to climb everywhere else (and the nuns make sure it stays that way). Not sure which is more likely, to be honest.
