I strongly disagree. Resutoka collapsed from hunger in the first chapter, so I don't see a scenario in which she wouldn't return the favor and save Karina. The story is an explanation of why Resutoka immediately wanted to make Karina her bride though.

That's not what happened. Menou did what she did to gain his trust and also make sure she could get a clean kill depending on what his power was. Everyone that gets transported to their world gets a power, so that's not really something they need to check.
