The prince behavior is a kinda hard to guess.. maybe he actually wanted to be closer to the Duke as brothers but bcs of they're in different factions they couldn't...
And the prince is egging bourbon to do as he wants to the Duke, so when he gets killed he won't help him because of his insolence :D
