Yeah, most scurvy stuff seems to have happened because people were relying very heavily on wheats and other high carb, low vit C foods. I also forgot Maize had vit C, so I'd wager the author also forgot. xD

yeah, its a rather cheesy tournament, probably done intentionally to set in how unfair the system is. For us readers, that unfairness creates that edgy angst to try and hook us into reading more. xD

This story is all about evoking strong emotional responses by showing a lot of sexual violence each chapter to keep readers hooked on that brooding anger. So yeah, the author has to show that stuff every chapter or you might break out of the cycle. =P

"A mostly intelligent character"? I wouldn't describe the MC as such, which is part of the comedy of this series, the MC thinks he's being big brained but what he ends up doing just digs his grave deeper. Seeing the results bite him in the end holds some entertainment.
