Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

The Shadow Warrior couldn't easily dispatch two sleep deprived elite mages with the advantage of terrain, Himmel fended off Solitar and chopped up one of the Seven Sages of Destruction while trapped in an illusion and needing to protect two immobile party members. This manga seems pretty...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

We know from her comments when beating down Macht that she was feared in the distant past, but we also know from her use of mana restriction that for centuries she considered fighting dirty either her only survival option or more practical than overpowering an enemy. She also stayed in hiding...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

That's a really interesting possibility, and would explain why all the demons took for granted that they couldn't beat the King. That said, I'm not 100% sold since Flamme would've made anything useful for killing demons public knowledge. It's established that many heroes perished in battle with...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

When I asked Ubel and Sukuna to define Slice of Life, they sent me photos of Burg and Gojo.

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

Ubel has, ironically, been established from early on to be one of the least skilled combatants in the series. On paper she's overwhelming, with battle oriented magic, astounding talent, analytical brilliance, and fighting experience. In spite of that, she's needed to be rescued every time she...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

It's an adventure series with SoL as its heart, much like Chainsaw Man is an action series wrapped around comedy according to Fujimoto's movie buddy and former assistant Yuji Kaku (Jigokuraku's mangaka).

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

Serie left Macht alone the entire time the Demon King was alive. Once the Demon King was dead and the humans protecting Macht were gone, she rushed over to kill him. Serie also spends her life engaging in mana restriction, an exhausting art that she herself calls impractical for anyone who...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

LOVE the description of Serie. The metric I was using was 'who would be called the strongest in another series'. For example, in JJK, Gojo Satoru is called 'the strongest modern sorcerer' even though Yuta has more cursed energy, and Takaba's cursed technique is unbeatable in a straight fight.

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

Currently, yes, but if everyone seen or referenced is included in the rankings, the Hero of the South with his combat oriented precognition magic. Serie didn't want to risk a solo with the Demon King; the Demon King considered the Hero of the South an existential threat to all demons.

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

Earlier Macht, in a situation where he had no reason to bother lying, noted people who overspecialize in fighting people were not threats to demons, since demons are, despite appearances, very different physically (not to mention psychologically). He thought the combined might of the Special...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

Serie is supposedly always correct about potential - including about Frieren, who never became powerful enough to beat the demon king in a straight fight (she needed to rely on teamwork). The Special Forces are probably weaker than First Clase mages individually, but better at tactics like...

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

I doubt they're stronger. It's more likely they fought dirty/smart by leading the First Class mages into a kill zone with prepared buildings. The male 'blinding' mage acts like he controls the buildings to lure targets into attacking at close range, while the female 'telekinetic' mage hides.

Sousou no Frieren - Ch. 128 - The Special Forces of Magic

Maybe his partner was the one controlling the buildings and he did the blinding. The irregularities about the buildings and lack of people in the area could be explained due to the Ubel/Land duo being driven into a prepared 'kill zone'. The author adding a faction of straight up equal or more...

    Boy's Abyss - Vol. 17 Ch. 164 - Shadow

Compared to the town as shown and described, the EU and USA are hellscapes.

Dude, most of the USA is way worse off than this town.

    Boy's Abyss - Vol. 17 Ch. 164 - Shadow

The better question is, can the mangaka resist the cheap shock value of Reiji and his mom getting together?
  18. I

    Boy's Abyss - Vol. 17 Ch. 164 - Shadow

Nah. The mangaka clearly has zero clue how much worse people live in 90% of the world.
