    Image not loading

Mangadex is now loading original images instead of the compressed ones regardless of the setting. At one point the connection to Mangadex throttled to ~15 KB/s max that the bloated original images simply didn't load at all (the setting is in compressed).

webp support (now that all modern browsers finally support it) :rejected:

Why do you even quote that dude? He doesn't even know that there's no space in webp. The main reason why social media doesn't use webp because the virality nature of their websites; people do download and share images from social media and webp isn't made to do that. Twitter even stopped...

More Amazon Anime and Manga bans. Japan now very worried.

@crazybars While context is everything, I don't know why a company that probably has little clue on all this rage about becomes the main spotlight for this thread's title. Some people here already misled into thinking that Amazon really hates anime. Though on another note, it's probably a valid...

More Amazon Anime and Manga bans. Japan now very worried.

@crazybars I doubt this case is industry scale problem, even. Amazon doesn't seem targeting manga or light novel specifically, since many still up in their search page. A few novels caught in Amazon's book pulling spree is already happened a few times in the past. It's because the publisher is...

More Amazon Anime and Manga bans. Japan now very worried.

@crazybars Because in the video the only time Japan gets mentioned as country (government) when the youtuber talks about Tencent expansion in earlier part of the video. Many indie authors stopped publishing exclusively through Kindle Select because Amazon is infamous for this.

More Amazon Anime and Manga bans. Japan now very worried.

@crazybars I talking that because this thread seems to point to Japan vs Amazon as country vs company. My first point mostly reaction for the first post in this page. I guess you're not familiar with how Amazon operates. Even contents with romance beyond holding hands with characters below 18...

More Amazon Anime and Manga bans. Japan now very worried.

First of all, the video OP posted a video that talks about anime censorship because Tencent and China, the part where mentioning Japanese government, which Amazon has nothing to do with it. Second, I reckon people over-reacting by bringing a whole culture and country with this issue. Amazon has...

@theo1996 Except that there's no contract when you publishing on Amazon, even when publishing ebook exclusively through Kindle Select.

A Royal Princess with Black Hair - Ch. 7

In real life, even an assassination of an Archduke could lead to World War 1. It doesn't matter whether a princess is gonna "abandoned" or "divorced" by the crown prince or not--harming her in foreign soil for whatever reason could lead to war, whatever excuses the host country is having...

Improvements to data saver option, servers and recruitment for a dev to work on...

@Holo I see. It seems I haven't paid close attention and been referring to old post about Cloudflare. If you're the one who said the option is unviable then I probably should stop here, thought I certainly do have something more to say about it in mind.

Improvements to data saver option, servers and recruitment for a dev to work on...

@leaflady I already mentioned this before, but you can still serve webp without having to mess with iOS users. I did that on my website I posted on a comment I posted previously. Some company also provided unlimited on the fly webp optimization as low as $9.5/month.

Improvements to data saver option, servers and recruitment for a dev to work on...

@Halo I'm not saying they should burn the bridge with Path. I'm just asking they have an agreement or some sort to not using another paid CDN services as to promote Path. You know, multi-cdn is a valid strategy to cut cost and performance, considering Mangadex is stacking Cloudflare on top of...

Improvements to data saver option, servers and recruitment for a dev to work on...

I'm been wondering this before, but is Mangadex is tied with Path Network through sponsorship? I've been suggesting some other CDN services, though multi-CDN is still an option, but doesn't receive any response from admin. I'm addressing this because I failed to find Path network providing any...

@Salfaro That's data-saver actually already jpg file. Browser doesn't decide a file's type by its url, but by MIME type. You can check it by dev tool and see what it tells you in response header "content-type". https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Basics_of_HTTP/MIME_types edit...

@firelight People here been asking WEBP because we know how CDN billing work - storage space is just plain cheaper than bandwidth billing.

@Afiaki What? Really? Whenever I browse Reddit I use proxy since my country is blocking it, I'm not aware if it's actually down to other people. Let me just post the direct link here: https://mangadex-tinify.netlify.app/ That website can already detect for webp features, so iOS users will be...

Improvements to data saver option, servers and recruitment for a dev to work on...

For WEBP supporters as well as doubters, I made a demo to implement cross browser WEBP implementation to show that implementing WEBP shouldn't be that hard. It has features that choose between 4 quality, and fetch images through Mangadex API. If someone asks I can open source it later, so even...

    New feature: Data saver option

@RonBWL Even if you store 10x image sizes to your server, it won't affect server load latency, the same principle as your HDD isn't gonna take away your CPU and RAM resources. Unless you cache those images on memory with redis or something, which is something silly to do if you just want to...

New servers and file optimisation request!

@Railander Of course they can. PHP has libvps wrapper library, which can optimize myriads of formats, and using quite low resources generally. But I wouldn't recommend that since PHP isn't the best language to do concurrent tasks. And, no, setting up image processing server isn't that complex...
